Back to School! I think it must get people in the mood for fall and you know what that means... Halloween will soon be here! I have been busy readying myself for the hectic costume season. Last year was my first year of sewing/selling costumes on Etsy and I kinda fell into it. A sweet costumer approached me with a special request for a boyish Owl Costume similar to the one Pottery Barn makes. I had so much fun creating the costume for her but after all the extra (read unpaid) time I put into the design I thought well maybe I could sell 'a couple' more! HAH! I was so much busier than I had ever imagined! I had a couple other costumers request different 'versions' of the owl and thus the BAT & Angry Bird Costumes were born! Looking back, from September 9th to October 14th, I sewed 60 costumes! I literally did not want to see my machine until after Christmas! This year I am going to pace myself more and not take as many orders. My kids a little bigger and take shorter naps so I won't have as much time to squeeze the sewing into my day. <br />
<br />
The other day I was able to do a fun photo shoot with my good friend's little girl and her little friend and friend's sister. My vision was Woodland Tea Party- I know, it sounds amazing doesn't it! Here are some shots I got! {I have to live vicariously through my friend's with little girls}<br />
<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am going to be offering the purple and black tutu as an add on in my shop. Bat Costume can be found <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/81867251/toddler-preschool-bat-costume" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and this brown ruffle dress too</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ky_nPTORNFY/UDLFZiP-WOI/AAAAAAAABxc/WHZkI8P7oPo/s1600/greyowl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ky_nPTORNFY/UDLFZiP-WOI/AAAAAAAABxc/WHZkI8P7oPo/s320/greyowl.jpg" width="214" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love this grey hooded owl! Do you see the grey ruffle diaper cover? This will also be offered as an add on.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ugUsC3VUcXg/UDLFekG2fxI/AAAAAAAABxk/8roLM2bcwQc/s1600/hoodedowl1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ugUsC3VUcXg/UDLFekG2fxI/AAAAAAAABxk/8roLM2bcwQc/s320/hoodedowl1.jpg" width="214" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The girls were such troopers. You'd never believe it was in the 90s the day we shot these! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A few weeks later, after a bad storm, one of our trees just tipped over. The roots were still in the ground! I told my husband to wait to cut it down (those who know him know how efficient he is ;-)) it was the perfect place to 'perch' my owl for some photos. Then a couple days later we had a beautiful overcast cool day and using some bribery I was able to dress my 4 year old in the <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/82410320/toddler-preschool-owl-costume" target="_blank">Owl Costume </a>and he did great modeling for me. I think he had fun climbing through the tree! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IQUGFJGC_v0/UDLFiDAu5QI/AAAAAAAABxs/YJ3D5g43C2U/s1600/etsyowlfull.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IQUGFJGC_v0/UDLFiDAu5QI/AAAAAAAABxs/YJ3D5g43C2U/s320/etsyowlfull.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LbQnQsw22XI/UDLFpSRcN-I/AAAAAAAABx8/d0zm-ynnRmA/s1600/etsyowlside.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LbQnQsw22XI/UDLFpSRcN-I/AAAAAAAABx8/d0zm-ynnRmA/s320/etsyowlside.jpg" width="214" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love the little vest I made to go under the cape. You can't tell from the photos but it is slightly shimmery... in a very masculine way ;-) It also has specks of turquoise. I may offer this as an add on... but I don't have much of the fabric left and for the life of me I can't find more! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I hope you enjoyed this little preview of what I've been busy working on for my shop. As always I love feedback! </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XtOQ0sXt_OY/T6Gic4Pum-I/AAAAAAAABwQ/39WE36pUDJ8/s1600/backpacktut+header.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XtOQ0sXt_OY/T6Gic4Pum-I/AAAAAAAABwQ/39WE36pUDJ8/s320/backpacktut+header.jpg" width="214" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When this project came to me it was one of those 'duh! why hadn't I thought of this before!' moments. My preschooler needed an extra set of sheets. I bought a really cute set at Target (one of my favorite stores!). It matches all the colors in his quilt that I bought there a couple years ago! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This 20 Minute Toddler Backpack starts with the bag that the sheet set comes in. I've always hated throwing these out! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You will also need (2) 16" pieces of nylon webbing for the straps and a 6" piece for the loop at the top, and a 9" piece of 1/4" elastic.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bfgas8Q3bMk/T6GX26CsKaI/AAAAAAAABvc/yHHQIaD_2CM/s1600/backpacktut1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bfgas8Q3bMk/T6GX26CsKaI/AAAAAAAABvc/yHHQIaD_2CM/s400/backpacktut1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Take the bag and using a disappearing ink pen mark a line across the bottom (between the 2 corners- there isn't a seam otherwise I'd use that) and then mark one inch in from the outer corner. This is where we'll place the straps</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zx1vVwo3CGA/T6GZGHKjikI/AAAAAAAABvk/dW916uUpPLg/s1600/backpacktut2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zx1vVwo3CGA/T6GZGHKjikI/AAAAAAAABvk/dW916uUpPLg/s400/backpacktut2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then, again, mark a line across the top where the flap starts. Make a mark in the center then 2 marks, each a half inch out from the center. These will be where the tops of the straps end up. Next, cut Nylon Webbing {2 pieces 16" long and 1 piece 6" long). Use a lighter or match to melt the ends of the webbing so they don't fray. Hold the flame close but do not touch the end of the webbing or it will burn. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pin the shorter piece under the longer straps making sure to line them up with the marks you made. They will end up being 1" apart. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JVGtBLuU-wI/T6Ga6FkvHTI/AAAAAAAABvs/I0JyC00xcSQ/s1600/backpacktut3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JVGtBLuU-wI/T6Ga6FkvHTI/AAAAAAAABvs/I0JyC00xcSQ/s400/backpacktut3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then pin the bottom of the straps inline with the marks at the bottom. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nOkOENDsgDY/T6Gb4HJ1xmI/AAAAAAAABv0/Qz2HTN16V2g/s1600/backpacktut4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nOkOENDsgDY/T6Gb4HJ1xmI/AAAAAAAABv0/Qz2HTN16V2g/s400/backpacktut4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used a heavy duty needle (after my 'universal' needle was bent trying to get through the layers of webbing) if you go slow you may be able to avoid buying the extra needles- I happen to have them already. The second picture shows how I stitched the straps on- doing the box with an X through it. Make sure to cut the tag off the side!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7yewzzFGAh4/T6GdSaminWI/AAAAAAAABv8/wtRX473aOBA/s1600/backpacktut5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7yewzzFGAh4/T6GdSaminWI/AAAAAAAABv8/wtRX473aOBA/s400/backpacktut5.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last, grab your piece of elastic and thread it through the casing already made. Then secure each end in place with plenty of stitches- I went back and forth a few times.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SUs2VqMORv4/T6GeQPxApdI/AAAAAAAABwE/4TlOD7O4Las/s1600/backpacktut6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SUs2VqMORv4/T6GeQPxApdI/AAAAAAAABwE/4TlOD7O4Las/s400/backpacktut6.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Voila! In 20 minutes (maybe less) you will have the cutest little backpack ready to go. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Load it up with 'treasures' :</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fU9Mq7FO6uo/T6Gj2io84lI/AAAAAAAABwY/l-2V5hI2kcM/s1600/backpacktut+loaded.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fU9Mq7FO6uo/T6Gj2io84lI/AAAAAAAABwY/l-2V5hI2kcM/s320/backpacktut+loaded.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and stick it on a little one's back! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hawEUEP8v6s/T6LSqpdxxpI/AAAAAAAABws/GvsR-Oip_UM/s1600/backpack+model1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hawEUEP8v6s/T6LSqpdxxpI/AAAAAAAABws/GvsR-Oip_UM/s400/backpack+model1.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HFjYqYF3nsQ/T6LS1EtNq9I/AAAAAAAABw0/7pYWNp0nGyw/s1600/backpack+model2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HFjYqYF3nsQ/T6LS1EtNq9I/AAAAAAAABw0/7pYWNp0nGyw/s400/backpack+model2.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This backpack, when done for a girl, would be perfect for a dance outfit or tapshoes but in my house backpacks are referred to as 'rescue packs' yeah, we're into Diego right now! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Enjoy- and look you still have plenty of time left if your kids are napping to make a cup of something and relax! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It would make my day if you left a comment :)</div>

Hello there, I know I've been a stranger for the last couple months! There is no concrete reason, just that life got busy as my boys are getting older and busier! I have not stayed away for lack of ideas or sewing. I have actually been sewing a lot! But with 2 busy boys the only time I have is during their nap time which I spend sewing, cleaning, reading...anything but blogging! So I thought I'd pop on here to say 'I'm still alive' and life is good but I just dont know how much of my life I can commit to blogging. I am not done but I think you'll see a shift in what I'll be blogging about. Probably less of the long step by step sewing tutorials and more quick, simple projects mixed in with preschooler/ toddler stuff... Leaving it vague since it will be whatever tickles my fancy! Before I post any new stuff I do have some maintain acne issues with my blog like all the spam comments I get and a few documents that haven't been accessible due to changes in the hosting sight.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'll leave you with some photos of the boys playing in some puddles left by a couple days worth of storm that we had earlier this week. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
believe it or not, she is still a "puppy"! We got her back in January and she has gotten SO big! Her energy matches the boys' so she's a great addition (overlooking the chewing!). </div>

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OiN-6XgR7fA/TvICTezN-sI/AAAAAAAABtQ/EVRZnKTcvzk/s1600/DSC02332.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" oda="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OiN-6XgR7fA/TvICTezN-sI/AAAAAAAABtQ/EVRZnKTcvzk/s320/DSC02332.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">I have wanted to make Christmas jammies for my boys since last year. I don't know how but I came across a link to <a href="http://www.mellysews.com/">Melly Sews</a> and she had posted about how to use <a href="http://www.mellysews.com/2011/11/christmas-pajamas.html">her blazer pattern and make it into pjs</a>... I was in! I had bookmarked the free pattern over at <a href="http://sewingin-nomansland.blogspot.com/p/tutorials.html">Sewing in No Man's Land</a> but it is only in one size and my brain is pretty fried right now... I didn't want to deal with trying to resize. I purchased the pattern right away and within hours was making jammies #1 for my 3 year old. (I had purchased fabric already....I told you this was on my to do list for a while!)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yp4f8OSlwdw/TvICMyzHDXI/AAAAAAAABtI/blr86AhsKsk/s1600/DSC02306.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" oda="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yp4f8OSlwdw/TvICMyzHDXI/AAAAAAAABtI/blr86AhsKsk/s320/DSC02306.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Ok, I don't know how many of you are like me- the first attempt at a pattern or project is always slewn with mistakes! First of all I probably should have gone a size smaller because my kid is a string bean... but tall so I made him a size 4... it kinda hangs off him. Oh well! The major mistake that really bugs me is that I cut the pants wrong! The pattern is going the opposite direction as the top. More importantly than the look is that the stretch is wrong! Luckily I made them big enough that they still work! </div><div style="text-align: center;">I often have to tell myself to </div><div style="text-align: center;">LET GO OF PERFECTION!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8PYIv3-BHS8/TvICe8EJB9I/AAAAAAAABtY/mnxBqXQBOco/s1600/DSC02308.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" oda="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8PYIv3-BHS8/TvICe8EJB9I/AAAAAAAABtY/mnxBqXQBOco/s320/DSC02308.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">All this boy has asked for from Santa is a "long, long choo choo train"! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I'm not sure what he calls the gazillion of tracks and trains on his train table! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">He got this really nice wooden train on Saturday at a family Christmas party...see the little wooden logs! He calls them Jobi wood (all of you that are familiar with Thomas the Train will know what that is!)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xrSNF-A0Qs4/TvIChZWdWgI/AAAAAAAABtg/9nVpbRkTWxQ/s1600/DSC02309.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" oda="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xrSNF-A0Qs4/TvIChZWdWgI/AAAAAAAABtg/9nVpbRkTWxQ/s320/DSC02309.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">...and the train is off! </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7oNEVPXw5xY/TvICizyC-HI/AAAAAAAABto/JgQCX-etMhI/s1600/DSC02310.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" oda="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7oNEVPXw5xY/TvICizyC-HI/AAAAAAAABto/JgQCX-etMhI/s320/DSC02310.JPG" width="213" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This train was handmade locally and my mother in law found out about him and hunted him down to get this train! I've seen similar ones on <a href="http://www.etsy.com/search/handmade?q=wooden+trains&view_type=gallery&ship_to=US">Etsy</a>.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4xhu1_WQOQw/TvICkF_hN5I/AAAAAAAABtw/Fko7a79-yyY/s1600/DSC02313.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" oda="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4xhu1_WQOQw/TvICkF_hN5I/AAAAAAAABtw/Fko7a79-yyY/s320/DSC02313.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I added the ric-rac at the bottom and am torn whether it looks 'gingerbread boy-ish' or just plain girly! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Ok, so the 2nd pair for my husky 17 month old turned out pretty well! Remembering how big the first pair was I did slim down the pattern a bit (not too much since he is still a little husky).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5I2-EnNnRZA/TvIEih-_JqI/AAAAAAAABt4/mwIO4Kzl9hc/s1600/DSC02300.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" oda="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5I2-EnNnRZA/TvIEih-_JqI/AAAAAAAABt4/mwIO4Kzl9hc/s320/DSC02300.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7NzJFcuwFc8/TvIEuWl-L7I/AAAAAAAABuA/FOrnV5Bv9rE/s1600/DSC02301.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" oda="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7NzJFcuwFc8/TvIEuWl-L7I/AAAAAAAABuA/FOrnV5Bv9rE/s320/DSC02301.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I decided not to do the trim and just the ric-rac along the collar and really like it! </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fNtXySG3e74/TvIEve1h45I/AAAAAAAABuI/OXNokp4WcV0/s1600/DSC02304.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" oda="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fNtXySG3e74/TvIEve1h45I/AAAAAAAABuI/OXNokp4WcV0/s320/DSC02304.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I added a cuff at the bottom with some more ric-rac. I had about 2" left otherwise I would have liked to put it around the wrists. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8pIswlneWSY/TvIFZHLajnI/AAAAAAAABuY/Hm4A5tkiw9M/s1600/DSC02327.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" oda="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8pIswlneWSY/TvIFZHLajnI/AAAAAAAABuY/Hm4A5tkiw9M/s320/DSC02327.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">He is following in his brother's footsteps and also loves his choo choos!</div><br />

<br />
Hello there & welcome if you're visiting from Gwenny Penny! <br />
I was so honored when Gwen asked me to participate in Haul out the Holly this year! </div><div style="text-align: center;">It honestly didn't take me very long to come up with this idea. I was preparing for my first craft fair around the time she asked me to participate and I had pennants on my mind.... thus:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><strong><span style="font-size: large;">Santa Pennant Garland!</span></strong><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Chf4-tCTPys/TtfbxF-mF4I/AAAAAAAABsw/eDBwu65loGE/s1600/DSC01994-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="319" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Chf4-tCTPys/TtfbxF-mF4I/AAAAAAAABsw/eDBwu65loGE/s320/DSC01994-1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Let's get started!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5wNqtgXaCOQ/TtVPnk68tjI/AAAAAAAABq4/XelwIAt-Oms/s1600/DSC01953-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="214" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5wNqtgXaCOQ/TtVPnk68tjI/AAAAAAAABq4/XelwIAt-Oms/s320/DSC01953-1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><strong>Materials:</strong><br />
1/4 yd red flannel <br />
1/4 yd white or cream flannel<br />
desired length of 1" black satin ribbon (3-4 yds)<br />
coordinating thread<br />
spring loaded scissors (not required but recommended)<br />
cardstock and marker<br />
<br />
<strong>Let's make our triangle pattern:</strong><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PGy7wMCk3kE/TtVQrmQKg5I/AAAAAAAABrA/bGeH8vCshjU/s1600/2011-11-29.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PGy7wMCk3kE/TtVQrmQKg5I/AAAAAAAABrA/bGeH8vCshjU/s320/2011-11-29.JPG" width="320" /></a></div></div><div style="text-align: center;">1. draw a 5" line which will be the top of the triangle</div><div style="text-align: center;">2. draw a 5" line perpendicular to the first line (creating a T)</div><div style="text-align: center;">3. connect the lines to form your triangle</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Cut out your pattern and grab your rotary cutter and we'll cut out our fabric.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GKYjCP6-u50/TtVRvqZ1ZhI/AAAAAAAABrI/HIc_hZcSKrE/s1600/DSC01960-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="214" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GKYjCP6-u50/TtVRvqZ1ZhI/AAAAAAAABrI/HIc_hZcSKrE/s320/DSC01960-1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I folded my fabric and cut 4 layers at a time. You need 2 triangles of each color for each finished pennant. The number depends on how long you are making your garland.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FMlD0xtDskw/TtVSPGhwr_I/AAAAAAAABrQ/k0a77SR8nGo/s1600/DSC01962-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="214" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FMlD0xtDskw/TtVSPGhwr_I/AAAAAAAABrQ/k0a77SR8nGo/s320/DSC01962-1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Now lets layer our pennants. <br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pCvyCPRY-eI/TtVSsZZ6xHI/AAAAAAAABrg/Axq8IpEPHwE/s1600/DSC01966-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="214" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pCvyCPRY-eI/TtVSsZZ6xHI/AAAAAAAABrg/Axq8IpEPHwE/s320/DSC01966-1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Bottom layer- red</div><div style="text-align: center;">2 middle layers- white</div><div style="text-align: center;">Top layer- red</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tcreUUEY2ug/TtVS_qN2waI/AAAAAAAABro/k1WBWkDWJCg/s1600/DSC01968-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="214" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tcreUUEY2ug/TtVS_qN2waI/AAAAAAAABro/k1WBWkDWJCg/s320/DSC01968-1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Pin your layers together. You should have a stack ready to head to your machine.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bEXYGilBvII/TtVTZ-q8WGI/AAAAAAAABrw/VQsghQscePg/s1600/DSC01971-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bEXYGilBvII/TtVTZ-q8WGI/AAAAAAAABrw/VQsghQscePg/s320/DSC01971-1.JPG" width="213" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Sew along the 2 sides using a 3/4" seam allowance (mine fluctuated between 1/2"-3/4" but in the end you won't notice if they aren't perfect).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Grab those spring loaded scissors (great if you do rag quilting... which is why I bought them... still haven't made a rag quilt yet though! haha)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ECw4_LOo83Y/TtVT9lRr45I/AAAAAAAABr4/h6RJz50oTdc/s1600/DSC01972-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="214" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ECw4_LOo83Y/TtVT9lRr45I/AAAAAAAABr4/h6RJz50oTdc/s320/DSC01972-1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Start snipping 1/4" segments along both sides of each triangle. Leave the top uncut & do not cross the line you sewed.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DnjNIOW9jpg/TtVUTGReDUI/AAAAAAAABsA/GI3GpDnoEG0/s1600/DSC01974-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="214" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DnjNIOW9jpg/TtVUTGReDUI/AAAAAAAABsA/GI3GpDnoEG0/s320/DSC01974-1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I went ahead and sprayed it down with water and threw it in the dryer to shrink it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now we'll add the ribbon along the top. Leave a tail of 6" before your first triangle. I just folded the ribbon over the top of the triangle and pinned it in place. I did not leave any space between each triangle.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tk69kMq7WjQ/Ttafc-U3TCI/AAAAAAAABsQ/TTmx9IfsbJY/s1600/DSC01979.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="214" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tk69kMq7WjQ/Ttafc-U3TCI/AAAAAAAABsQ/TTmx9IfsbJY/s320/DSC01979.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I started sewing at the first triangle making sure to backstitch (at the end too) so it wouldn't come unraveled. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aRVonFHlMiI/TtafpFWihBI/AAAAAAAABsY/SYejDMOnI0g/s1600/DSC01981.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" dda="true" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aRVonFHlMiI/TtafpFWihBI/AAAAAAAABsY/SYejDMOnI0g/s320/DSC01981.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now I threw it in the washing machine to really get it to fluff up. You might want to do this a couple times... the more the merrier!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I've never done one before but have always been interested. My main hesitation has been my boys...like what to do with them! My husband works. ALOT. He runs his family's business and then farms on the side (like the few hours left in the day once you've worked a full time job). So we really don't see him much. But things all fell into place because my wonderful mom & her husband are coming down for Thanksgiving! They will be here from Wednesday night through Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend. Yay! help! So, knowing I'd have coverage for my boys I am going full steam ahead getting ready for this thing. It's in a small town near me & the whole town does an 'open house' type thing so I think there will be plenty of traffic. </div><div style="text-align: center;">Here's what I've done so far in preparation:</div><div style="text-align: center;">1. I got a smart phone & ordered the 'Square' device which will allow me to accept credit cards. I got the phone for free since I was available for an upgrade and I went with the iphone 3 (older version). The 'Square' is free and came pretty quickly. The app is also free and I downloaded that right away. It took a little longer to set up the bank account you want the money deposited into. </div><div style="text-align: center;">2. I've been sewing in bulk! I think I've made 2 dozen burp cloths & have another 1 dozen to make, and have about 60 t-shirts that I'm doing reindeer & ties. I've made other things too (did I mention I signed up for another craft fair the following weekend! It was only $10 so I figured I'd take whatever I didn't sell at the first one).</div><div style="text-align: center;">3. My main focus for this post was to share the child size mannequin I made today. I bought the pattern <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/83484959/pdf-pattern-and-tutorial-for-a-childrens?ref=sr_list_2&ga_search_query=mannequin+pattern&ga_view_type=list&ga_ship_to=US&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmade">here</a>. It came together really fast & didn't take very much fabric. It is size 2T& will be a great prop for my table. Here is how I want to pose it:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NBj5nGXBQjc/Tr793ZRyQNI/AAAAAAAABpg/vjff8WePe9I/s1600/DSC01825-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nda="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NBj5nGXBQjc/Tr793ZRyQNI/AAAAAAAABpg/vjff8WePe9I/s320/DSC01825-1.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">On this cute tiny red chair we rescued... it needed a little TLC & still does but the mannequin hides some of the flaws.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">With or without the Santa hat?</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qUo20j_Z3lk/Tr795YkWLKI/AAAAAAAABpo/Mv-1flgLUHY/s1600/DSC01829-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nda="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qUo20j_Z3lk/Tr795YkWLKI/AAAAAAAABpo/Mv-1flgLUHY/s320/DSC01829-1.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The tie is one of a set I whipped up last night for my boys' Christmas card photos. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CvV6pK44BI4/Tr797MUAibI/AAAAAAAABpw/dlLxEqTFe3k/s1600/DSC01838-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nda="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CvV6pK44BI4/Tr797MUAibI/AAAAAAAABpw/dlLxEqTFe3k/s320/DSC01838-1.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I feel like this little guy is a part of our family now! He's a little lumpy because I stuffed him with scrap fabric but with a t-shirt on nobody will ever be able to tell. I think I'll make a couple more since I have a couple t-shirt designs to display. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here's my next project to finish:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Lq4C0u0Cb-g/Tr79zydcY_I/AAAAAAAABpY/lb5PgEHHVos/s1600/DSC01841-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" nda="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Lq4C0u0Cb-g/Tr79zydcY_I/AAAAAAAABpY/lb5PgEHHVos/s320/DSC01841-1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">A pennant banner to hang on the table. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="post signature" class="centered" src="http://i978.photobucket.com/albums/ae267/craigslistacct/signature.jpg" /></div>Erica {B is for Boy}http://www.blogger.com/profile/11749146150786708751noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5600655892505073740.post-89186395587501020952011-11-13T06:00:00.014-06:002011-11-13T06:00:00.328-06:00Christmas Wedding Present<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NxBQaGN20oY/Tr712OMPcQI/AAAAAAAABpQ/WPnk3WtkQdE/s1600/DSC01779-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="319" nda="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NxBQaGN20oY/Tr712OMPcQI/AAAAAAAABpQ/WPnk3WtkQdE/s320/DSC01779-1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
So last weekend my hubby and I got a much needed little get away (from the boys) for a family wedding. We had a fantastic time. I thought I'd share the gift I made for the couple. I was inspired by all the awesome Mr. & Mrs. gifts I've seen on different blogs & Etsy... just do a search for Mr. & Mrs. wedding gifts and you will see so many amazing wedding gifts! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-haxs30g35xE/Trk0RDlvy1I/AAAAAAAABoo/S21xcLH8lOg/s1600/DSC01778.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" ida="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-haxs30g35xE/Trk0RDlvy1I/AAAAAAAABoo/S21xcLH8lOg/s320/DSC01778.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">His and Her stockings! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> I thought how perfect for them to hang up on their first Christmas!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I went for a very classic red, white, and black color scheme.. wanted them to feel formal.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JwgslwWJZ14/Trk0SEiUXPI/AAAAAAAABow/WL8hcQPbQtU/s1600/DSC01782.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" ida="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JwgslwWJZ14/Trk0SEiUXPI/AAAAAAAABow/WL8hcQPbQtU/s320/DSC01782.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The lipstick kiss is embroidered by my machine. I was torn whether or not to also go with an embroidered applique like the mustache but I really like how you can see all the ridges with the embroidered kiss. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--IDOp14ujTw/Trk0TyxEBCI/AAAAAAAABo4/tZK67rcj3vU/s1600/DSC01794.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" ida="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--IDOp14ujTw/Trk0TyxEBCI/AAAAAAAABo4/tZK67rcj3vU/s320/DSC01794.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The mustache pattern I purchased from Etsy for my embroidery machine. I am slowly getting the hang of the embroidery possibilities. The key was realizing that I could transfer the designs... myself! I was under the impression that I had to go back to the shop to get them transfered to my sewing machine. That just wasn't going to happen with 2 little boys tagging along! </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BliBRDd4mN8/Trk0VG2dsLI/AAAAAAAABpA/0vCSTl4cFTM/s1600/DSC01792.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" ida="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BliBRDd4mN8/Trk0VG2dsLI/AAAAAAAABpA/0vCSTl4cFTM/s320/DSC01792.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KuRQFDAsk7w/Trk0WbXKmVI/AAAAAAAABpI/5Ryow1uIO1M/s1600/DSC01805.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" ida="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KuRQFDAsk7w/Trk0WbXKmVI/AAAAAAAABpI/5Ryow1uIO1M/s320/DSC01805.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> I wish I had my Christmas decorations up... so I'd have better pictures. </div><div align="center" style="text-align: center;">I am not a pre-Thanksgiving decorator. Now that I've created the pattern I might be churning out some more stockings... I've always wanted matching Christmas stockings for our family! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="post signature" class="centered" src="http://i978.photobucket.com/albums/ae267/craigslistacct/signature.jpg" /></div>Erica {B is for Boy}http://www.blogger.com/profile/11749146150786708751noreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5600655892505073740.post-62155430395820117622011-10-20T06:00:00.001-05:002011-10-20T06:00:14.543-05:00Pumpkin Patch Outfit<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EzX_sUO9ci4/Tp7JEPpuAdI/AAAAAAAABlk/5Urp3s5MsT0/s1600/DSC01493-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" rda="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EzX_sUO9ci4/Tp7JEPpuAdI/AAAAAAAABlk/5Urp3s5MsT0/s320/DSC01493-1.JPG" width="213" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This outfit actually started as just the pants. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iEfh76tZlhE/Tp7HHIyXd5I/AAAAAAAABlU/-7nHidbfi-E/s1600/DSC01471.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" rda="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iEfh76tZlhE/Tp7HHIyXd5I/AAAAAAAABlU/-7nHidbfi-E/s320/DSC01471.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">But that creative itch overtook me & I was needing a break from sewing costumes and needed a quick little creative project. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Both my boys are going through their fall growth spurts.... you know when your kids' old pants are a little too short and the next size up are a little too long? I had just been rolling up the bottoms so they wouldn't trip and it occurred to me that it would be neat to add a little detail to make them look lined and therefor kinda cute when rolled up. The verdict is still out on whether they look a little too girly... my husband immediately unrolled them! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R9x0scVBJ5U/Tp7KkCWt43I/AAAAAAAABls/S53O_9SPz_4/s1600/DSC01517.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" rda="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R9x0scVBJ5U/Tp7KkCWt43I/AAAAAAAABls/S53O_9SPz_4/s320/DSC01517.JPG" width="236" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The shirt was super simple. I found the pumpkin applique online and to make the sleeves just made 2 tubes and attached them along the seam of shirt. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Wanna know how I added the faux lining? It was pretty simple. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zpwyaxNqBVM/Tp7L_NvsSiI/AAAAAAAABl0/iBc4QFbPBVM/s1600/DSC01343-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="319" rda="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zpwyaxNqBVM/Tp7L_NvsSiI/AAAAAAAABl0/iBc4QFbPBVM/s320/DSC01343-1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Take your kid's pants (they need to be too long). I bought these a while ago on clearance for $4 at Target. </div><br />

I am not worried about fraying because this will be tucked up in the pants and won't be seen. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4edwFD9qaRU/TpLXI6QeE_I/AAAAAAAABk8/TrodXUdEso0/s1600/DSC01585.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" kca="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4edwFD9qaRU/TpLXI6QeE_I/AAAAAAAABk8/TrodXUdEso0/s320/DSC01585.JPG" width="213" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Since this was for a newborn I don't have anyone to model it. Since this size took substantially less material and a little less time I offered to add a pair of little matching pants. I didn't feel right charging the same price I charge for much larger costumes. In the future I'll probably need to have a different listing for small/ larger sizes. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h6Yu7q87KDA/TpLXK56M_EI/AAAAAAAABlA/ymY0ldzyCc4/s1600/DSC01591.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" kca="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h6Yu7q87KDA/TpLXK56M_EI/AAAAAAAABlA/ymY0ldzyCc4/s320/DSC01591.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I used blanket binding around the top, so overall the cape with it's soft fleece and satin blanket binding feels like a comfy baby blanket! </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VvylGrvLGAg/TpLXMa7I6UI/AAAAAAAABlE/sj97VUCrPDY/s1600/DSC01593.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" kca="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VvylGrvLGAg/TpLXMa7I6UI/AAAAAAAABlE/sj97VUCrPDY/s320/DSC01593.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I just love how cute and tiny this project was! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here are some of the other Angry Birds that I've done (beside the original Red Bird)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z4ns7JP5TBc/TpLasyomxYI/AAAAAAAABlI/hmojrHUchdg/s1600/DSC01395.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" kca="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z4ns7JP5TBc/TpLasyomxYI/AAAAAAAABlI/hmojrHUchdg/s320/DSC01395.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My model wasn't feeling it so I couldn't get a good front view!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I just did another one of these and added the white "chin" under the beak. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-95sXpthmw2g/TpLaumkhUSI/AAAAAAAABlM/RZNyTStZsKk/s1600/DSC01408.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" kca="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-95sXpthmw2g/TpLaumkhUSI/AAAAAAAABlM/RZNyTStZsKk/s320/DSC01408.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This was the cutest little 12-18 month cape! I love how it turned out!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kxqlOkylC5c/TpLav0LWVQI/AAAAAAAABlQ/QgZo6OiLdA0/s1600/DSC01559.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" kca="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kxqlOkylC5c/TpLav0LWVQI/AAAAAAAABlQ/QgZo6OiLdA0/s320/DSC01559.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The black bomb! This also had a black bird cape. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I am starting to wind down, I finished taking orders on the 8th and am going to be completely finished by the end of this week- if all the stars align and no one, especially me, gets sick! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I have an adorable 'Pumpkin Patch' outfit I made my little guy that I hope to share later this week! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="post signature" class="centered" src="http://i978.photobucket.com/albums/ae267/craigslistacct/signature.jpg" /></div>Erica {B is for Boy}http://www.blogger.com/profile/11749146150786708751noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5600655892505073740.post-91138984671880894082011-10-03T06:00:00.009-05:002011-10-03T11:50:23.951-05:00Superhero Costume - Guest Post by Jaimee from Craft InteruptedGood morning my dear readers I have a special treat for you today! Another wonderful gal who volunteered to help me out while I am crazy busy with Halloween orders for my Etsy shop. I am pleased to hand it over to Jaimee from Craft, Interrupted. (PS check out these amazingly cute <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/72160692/lullaby-baby-bear-for-boy">Lullaby Baby Bears</a>! I think these would make a great baby gift!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pwYSxX_ZDkM/ToNLwUbzjwI/AAAAAAAABk0/o5eBxRMdkOE/s1600/il_570xN_236001081.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="268" kca="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pwYSxX_ZDkM/ToNLwUbzjwI/AAAAAAAABk0/o5eBxRMdkOE/s320/il_570xN_236001081.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Hi! I'm Jaimee from <a href="http://craft-interrupted.blogspot.com/">Craft, Interrupted</a>, and I'm popping over here today to B is for Boy! do my first ever Guest Post. So exciting! I'm also a mom of boys. I have three wild and goofy tornadoes of testosterone. Our house is full of Star Wars, plastic reptiles (and a real one, along with fish, frogs, and a dog), and lots of dump trucks. If you came here, you'd be stepping over scooters and muddy boots on the front stoop. You'd see Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Lego City books on the coffee table. You would get thumped with a giant inflatable crayon, and have a caped crusader peek around the corner to pelt you with a nerf bullet.<br />
<br />
If you could navigate the Angry Bird-esque set-up in the front hallway, you'd enter my studio. My own room for crafting and sewing, now that we moved into a bigger house. About a year ago, I started a blog about my projects and inspirations. I'm so happy to have rediscovered my love of all things creative, and to finally carve out time for <i>myself</i> , to sew and craft, even if it <i>is</i> repeatedly interrupted by requests for more apple juice ; )<br />
<br />
I'm going to share a recent project with you that was a test run for an idea I had for <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/ByCraftInterrupted">my etsy shop</a>. My creative goal for my etsy work has been to develop a line of dress-up costumes that could be comfortably worn by kids with sensory problems, like my oldest son. Most of these children cannot tolerate the scratchy fabric or accessories of costumes, or the way they rumple up over top of your regular clothing. Many of these children have huge difficulty participating in Halloween activities. I read a lot of special needs blogs <a href="http://ourlifewithspd.blogspot.com/">(and also write one of my own)</a>, and I was struck by some of the posts around Halloween time, about how these sensory kids couldn't wear costumes, or just wore the same football jersey they had worn for the prior three years and called <i>that </i>their costume. I'm sure some of these kids want to be princesses and superheros, too, and I started thinking of how I could make that easier.<br />
<br />
As a bonus, my design is also Mom-Friendly, in the fact that it is easy on/easy off. Dress-up time in our house usually consists of ten minutes of straightening and stuffing and velcro'ing...and whining and wiggling...and two minutes later my superhero wants to switch characters, or move on to Legos, and we are already on to the disrobing. Take this process times three children, with the impatient jumping up and down or the Spiderman web flinging poses as you are trying to get the sleeves up...well, let's just say Momma sometimes wants to hide even as they approach me with the first outfit ; )<br />
<br />
Here's what I did - we had a Superman costume bought on consignment after Halloween, thin fabric that started ripping and fraying at the seams after a month or so of use. I thought this was a perfect guinea pig to try out my idea. I ripped seams apart and cut the front of the costume to fit onto an apron shape of felt. Once I got them adjusted to the same shape, I sewed right sides together, flipped, ironed, and top stitched. <br />
<br />
I added a velcro waist strap and an elastic neck strap, and then shortened the cape and sewed it along the neck. I need to fiddle with the measurements of the straps, and the elastic bit, and think about how to get around the front part looking like a skirt (on the boy costumes at least), BUT, I was happy with how it came out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6v7-MzIhm3Y/ToM1l7fk-VI/AAAAAAAAEHg/OE1Tcko2xSo/s1600/IMG_7160.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6v7-MzIhm3Y/ToM1l7fk-VI/AAAAAAAAEHg/OE1Tcko2xSo/s400/IMG_7160.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qSWxjZ2s8_M/ToM1pqJWZ6I/AAAAAAAAEHk/Lh9f85N2qNI/s1600/IMG_7161.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qSWxjZ2s8_M/ToM1pqJWZ6I/AAAAAAAAEHk/Lh9f85N2qNI/s400/IMG_7161.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>It goes over the head, and the strap goes around the back to velcro at the side. No sleeves, no legs, just quick as a superhero in a telephone booth ; )<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cV5UQih_TuE/ToM2ZG5XdFI/AAAAAAAAEHo/7gaNfOE0_eE/s1600/IMG_7158.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cV5UQih_TuE/ToM2ZG5XdFI/AAAAAAAAEHo/7gaNfOE0_eE/s320/IMG_7158.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-29-0Md-4x2A/ToM2dDeqHRI/AAAAAAAAEHs/l-ESMtGyodM/s1600/IMG_7155.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-29-0Md-4x2A/ToM2dDeqHRI/AAAAAAAAEHs/l-ESMtGyodM/s320/IMG_7155.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />

Ha! I love having saved this Superman costume by transforming it into an easier version with a longer lifespan. I'm looking forward to tinkering with the pattern, and at some point in the future, I will have apron costumes for sale <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/ByCraftInterrupted">in my etsy shop!</a><br />
<br />
Huge thanks to Erica for letting me visit here today to share one of my creations, as well as the story behind it. Craft on!<br />

She has a really cute pumpkin tutorial to share with you today. Thanks Chelsea!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Hello!! I'm Chelsea from One Hot Crafty-Mama. I was trying to come up with something easy and fun to do for the fall then I remembered some pumpkins that my mom had made when I was younger. Going off of that memory this is what I came up with, I would love for you to check out how to make them.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WhQHwAuz7FA/Tn_aU1iLzeI/AAAAAAAAArQ/zAWRH_yuhPo/s1600/pumpkintutorial15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WhQHwAuz7FA/Tn_aU1iLzeI/AAAAAAAAArQ/zAWRH_yuhPo/s320/pumpkintutorial15.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">A couple of weeks ago I shared with you some pictures of fabric pumpkins I made and I promised a tutorial on how to make them. Here it is finally!!! These are really simple and you can make whatever size you want.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Materials needed:</b></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">scrap fabric (the body of your pumpkin)</div><div style="text-align: left;">a even smaller scrap of fabric (your stem)</div><div style="text-align: left;">pillow filler or a couple of grocery bags</div><div style="text-align: left;">embroidery floss and a large needle</div><div style="text-align: left;">thread and a regular needle</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_93g0kmC-nI/Tn_aJbf6SfI/AAAAAAAAAqg/BxGN3v3Rxxs/s1600/pumpkintutorial.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="220" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_93g0kmC-nI/Tn_aJbf6SfI/AAAAAAAAAqg/BxGN3v3Rxxs/s320/pumpkintutorial.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><b></b>I wanted to make a bigger pumpkin this time. So I used about a half of a fat quarter.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ujSeg0HLRNw/Tn_aKoHoGAI/AAAAAAAAAqk/MgVL1wOu94E/s1600/pumpkintutorial2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ujSeg0HLRNw/Tn_aKoHoGAI/AAAAAAAAAqk/MgVL1wOu94E/s320/pumpkintutorial2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Then I cut out a circle, you can trace something or just free hand it like I did.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-f7Kg1hzsE7E/Tn_aLgQ5fdI/AAAAAAAAAqo/_-OjJ10lbuc/s1600/pumpkintutorial3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-f7Kg1hzsE7E/Tn_aLgQ5fdI/AAAAAAAAAqo/_-OjJ10lbuc/s320/pumpkintutorial3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Using the needle and thread I ran the thread around the edge of the circle and then tightened it creating a pouch. *Note: be careful to not allow the thread to go all the way through the what you just stitched.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9WyV6450Jmk/Tn_aMsVitOI/AAAAAAAAAqs/mGhtEOygX1k/s1600/pumpkintutorial4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9WyV6450Jmk/Tn_aMsVitOI/AAAAAAAAAqs/mGhtEOygX1k/s320/pumpkintutorial4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Open the hole up a little bit and add your filler. I didn't have any pillow filler so I stuffed a couple of grocery bags in there and it worked great!!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-07fWE7Opfuc/Tn_aNji7jdI/AAAAAAAAAqw/3UnOPL_VNd0/s1600/pumpkintutorial5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-07fWE7Opfuc/Tn_aNji7jdI/AAAAAAAAAqw/3UnOPL_VNd0/s320/pumpkintutorial5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Then tie your hole close.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HCobmgSnkWM/Tn_aOmP5ecI/AAAAAAAAAq0/hQQa5mkNyIY/s1600/pumpkintutorial7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HCobmgSnkWM/Tn_aOmP5ecI/AAAAAAAAAq0/hQQa5mkNyIY/s320/pumpkintutorial7.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Now using your big needle and the floss, start your needle on the bottom of your pouch and push it up through the middle, don't let the floss go through completely bring the end of the floss around the outside of the pouch and tie it off in the middle. *Note: I used all the threads of the floss on this pumpkin on the others I used 4 of the threads.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rtnIaHypbgY/Tn_aPcksQ0I/AAAAAAAAAq4/eR-m8wMEwnQ/s1600/pumpkintutorial8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rtnIaHypbgY/Tn_aPcksQ0I/AAAAAAAAAq4/eR-m8wMEwnQ/s320/pumpkintutorial8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Go around your pumpkin starting at the bottom up through the middle, to the top and then around the outside back to the bottom (I hope that makes sense), continue at spacing the thread how you want to.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0NiOn78_Nyc/Tn_aQXBFCEI/AAAAAAAAAq8/PXw6QfOFvoQ/s1600/pumpkintutorial9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0NiOn78_Nyc/Tn_aQXBFCEI/AAAAAAAAAq8/PXw6QfOFvoQ/s320/pumpkintutorial9.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">This is what the bottom of mine looks like.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EbtR1-EvV5c/Tn_aRmJ8mfI/AAAAAAAAArA/-YpmBfsb-W0/s1600/pumpkintutorial10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EbtR1-EvV5c/Tn_aRmJ8mfI/AAAAAAAAArA/-YpmBfsb-W0/s320/pumpkintutorial10.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Here is the top. Tie off the floss I used the same spot that I started with. Now set it aside for a moment.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AV32bP78d7s/Tn_aSBFHlII/AAAAAAAAArE/tHvidikpo0Q/s1600/pumpkintutorial11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AV32bP78d7s/Tn_aSBFHlII/AAAAAAAAArE/tHvidikpo0Q/s320/pumpkintutorial11.jpg" width="236" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Now using your smaller piece of scrap create and strip. However wide or long is up to the side of your pumpkin and how big you want the stem to be.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-O71IEKY0Fb0/Tn_aS5t9R2I/AAAAAAAAArI/afAKP1HQ-wI/s1600/pumpkintutorial12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-O71IEKY0Fb0/Tn_aS5t9R2I/AAAAAAAAArI/afAKP1HQ-wI/s320/pumpkintutorial12.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Fold the fabric in half lengthwise with the right sides together. Now either use your machine if its handy or hand sew the long sides together. Then flip the fabric outside out and sew the bottom together.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Iy4Pgw6sZ1Y/Tn_aT_xS2FI/AAAAAAAAArM/YtkpNDb3Wao/s1600/pumpkintutorial14.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Iy4Pgw6sZ1Y/Tn_aT_xS2FI/AAAAAAAAArM/YtkpNDb3Wao/s320/pumpkintutorial14.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Now its time to attach the stem to the top. If you are making small pumpkins its easier to just hot glue the stems on otherwise sew it on. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WhQHwAuz7FA/Tn_aU1iLzeI/AAAAAAAAArQ/zAWRH_yuhPo/s1600/pumpkintutorial15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WhQHwAuz7FA/Tn_aU1iLzeI/AAAAAAAAArQ/zAWRH_yuhPo/s320/pumpkintutorial15.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;">Now enjoy your pumpkin!!!<br />
<br />

I thought I'd put out a feeler to see if anyone would be interested in doing a guest post here. Maybe something fall or Halloween related. I've got all these great new ideas but NO extra time to try them out let alone blog about them. Once I get through Halloween though I'll be able to breath again! If you're interested please email me at bisforboy(at)yahoo(dot)com.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> <img alt="post signature" class="centered" src="http://i978.photobucket.com/albums/ae267/craigslistacct/signature.jpg" /></div>Erica {B is for Boy}http://www.blogger.com/profile/11749146150786708751noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5600655892505073740.post-1841886885054725072011-09-22T07:00:00.001-05:002011-09-22T07:00:01.474-05:00Toddler Hoodie Pattern<div style="text-align: center;">Last spring I purchased <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/62634226/the-reversible-zippy-hoodie-sewing">The Reversible Zippy Hoodie pattern UNISEX</a>. I started it as a spring jacket for my older boy who was 2 1/2 at the time. Well fast forward 6 months and voila!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OrQmG2jLuIU/TnkDchu1W3I/AAAAAAAABkU/TsQzdW-YTG0/s1600/DSC01116.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" rba="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OrQmG2jLuIU/TnkDchu1W3I/AAAAAAAABkU/TsQzdW-YTG0/s320/DSC01116.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I now have a fall jacket for my younger son! I went to put it on the older one and it was way too small for a jacket! He could probably wear it as a shirt if it didn't have a zipper. Luckily the cuffs fold up so it works perfect for the little guy! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jul-0RZ_8Dw/TnkD-tmA_rI/AAAAAAAABkY/HBh_pcjVB8M/s1600/DSC01119.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" rba="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jul-0RZ_8Dw/TnkD-tmA_rI/AAAAAAAABkY/HBh_pcjVB8M/s320/DSC01119.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Check out the fancy posing! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qoehgO1dBIw/TnkEZIRpkLI/AAAAAAAABkc/5Ry5AVpK5iM/s1600/DSC01107.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" rba="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qoehgO1dBIw/TnkEZIRpkLI/AAAAAAAABkc/5Ry5AVpK5iM/s320/DSC01107.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I lined it with a grey flannel so it's warm but not too warm- perfect for fall!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gIscxYU-0FY/TnkFXyE9xZI/AAAAAAAABkk/yxjMvTlWKuk/s1600/DSC00499.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" rba="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gIscxYU-0FY/TnkFXyE9xZI/AAAAAAAABkk/yxjMvTlWKuk/s320/DSC00499.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Don't look too close or you'll notice small imperfections like how the bottom trim doesn't line up perfectly. Oh well. I loved the pattern. It came together fairly easily. It's not a beginner pattern, though. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now that I'm finished I want to make a couple more... when I find some time!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

Remember when I <a href="http://bisforboycreations.blogspot.com/2011/09/pottery-barn-owl-costume-knock-off-and.html">posted about this Owl Costume</a> that I added to my shop? </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bfKMfj0V5Bo/TnkAXpKszfI/AAAAAAAABkQ/gz3ubSoqG_A/s1600/square+ad-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" rba="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bfKMfj0V5Bo/TnkAXpKszfI/AAAAAAAABkQ/gz3ubSoqG_A/s320/square+ad-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Well it has been a hit! At customer requests I have done a couple different versions of the Owl. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Version 1: Bat Costume</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RJYZ3r44Ex0/Tnj_D-6QlLI/AAAAAAAABjw/WvkOngf66Wk/s1600/DSC00716-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" rba="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RJYZ3r44Ex0/Tnj_D-6QlLI/AAAAAAAABjw/WvkOngf66Wk/s320/DSC00716-1.JPG" width="319" /></a></div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Version 2: Red Angry Birds Costume</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">*On Etsy it's called Red Bird Costume because there's a copyright on the name and I don't want to get in trouble. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Angry Birds Blue and Yellow coming soon!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I've got a couple tutorials I'm working on but I've spent every minute of nap times, early mornings, and evenings after kids are asleep working on costumes! <div style="text-align: center;">I don't know how many of you follow <a href="http://projectrunandplay.blogspot.com/">Project Run & Play</a> but this week is for the boys! <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oNM_qSdydK0/Tm-cDLOSO5I/AAAAAAAABjI/3Ujh8MWLQbY/s1600/DSC00580-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" rba="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oNM_qSdydK0/Tm-cDLOSO5I/AAAAAAAABjI/3Ujh8MWLQbY/s320/DSC00580-1.JPG" width="319" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>So the other day I went to a home party at my sister in law's house for Thirty-One Gifts. They have the cutest products! But the whole time I couldn't help thinking 'I could make that!' Especially when I saw these adorable hot iron cases. (Picture from their fall catalog (<a href="http://www.thirtyonegifts.com/catalog/page40_41">image source</a>))</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--RbQGGZs2ms/TmDcvG_4_3I/AAAAAAAABg0/uOxvVOGupCg/s1600/hot+iron+case.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="166" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--RbQGGZs2ms/TmDcvG_4_3I/AAAAAAAABg0/uOxvVOGupCg/s320/hot+iron+case.jpg" width="320" xaa="true" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Look how simple! But what a great Christmas gift...yeah I know, we still have Halloween & Thanksgiving to get through but let me tell you there's nothing worse than waiting till the last minute to make Christmas gifts. It creates way too much unneeded stress!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here's my fairly easy Hot Iron Case Tutorial:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3B_TFC1O70s/Tm1mCBAM6WI/AAAAAAAABiM/fWH8GfosQ54/s1600/DSC00114.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" nba="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3B_TFC1O70s/Tm1mCBAM6WI/AAAAAAAABiM/fWH8GfosQ54/s320/DSC00114.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><u>Materials:</u></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Exterior Fabric (I used a laminated cotton)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Batting (could use <a href="http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=1ae34ff5-340c-4a7b-91ac-820e2303a6c7">Insul-bright</a>)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Heat resistant interior fabric (I used something like <a href="http://www.beverlys.com/james-thompson-heat-resistant-therma-flec-grey/">this</a>)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Coordinating Piping (optional)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">2" Velcro</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Cks_vneUock/Tm1mAPAVXRI/AAAAAAAABiI/3O-FKGExwOk/s1600/DSC00112.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" nba="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Cks_vneUock/Tm1mAPAVXRI/AAAAAAAABiI/3O-FKGExwOk/s320/DSC00112.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">First, cut your fabric. You'll need the following:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">18"x6" rectangle from exterior, interior, and batting</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">14 1/2" x 6" rectagle of exterior, interior, and batting</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N2UfZmEWxXI/Tm1mJVrEtlI/AAAAAAAABiY/MyPwuInfP0E/s1600/DSC00119.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" nba="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N2UfZmEWxXI/Tm1mJVrEtlI/AAAAAAAABiY/MyPwuInfP0E/s320/DSC00119.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Find a round object in your house to give the short ends a curve. On your shorted (pocket) piece leave one end straight.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wAjj8DEJpFc/Tm1mLv-zvnI/AAAAAAAABic/Fjl_sNf5SDU/s1600/DSC00120.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" nba="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wAjj8DEJpFc/Tm1mLv-zvnI/AAAAAAAABic/Fjl_sNf5SDU/s320/DSC00120.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YcEOSS9D3Us/Tm1mEV7MOPI/AAAAAAAABiQ/Yxd_unX39ow/s1600/DSC00117.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" nba="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YcEOSS9D3Us/Tm1mEV7MOPI/AAAAAAAABiQ/Yxd_unX39ow/s320/DSC00117.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Take exterior and interior short pieces and pin them right sides together along one of the short ends. Sew along this end.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0VTF-H_H5yg/Tm1mGjSJMrI/AAAAAAAABiU/tyDCwJ2fn5w/s1600/DSC00118.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" nba="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0VTF-H_H5yg/Tm1mGjSJMrI/AAAAAAAABiU/tyDCwJ2fn5w/s320/DSC00118.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zL-597vU5os/Tm1mNejHhUI/AAAAAAAABig/YWbFvTlD2kY/s1600/DSC00126.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nba="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zL-597vU5os/Tm1mNejHhUI/AAAAAAAABig/YWbFvTlD2kY/s320/DSC00126.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now open and lay this piece flat. Take the short piece of batting and lay it along one of the pieces of fabric (I chose the interior fabric). Then bring the exterior fabric over, sandwiching the batthing. Pin the short end where you sewed before.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rAlLYl7-7Mw/Tm1mO_lUxuI/AAAAAAAABik/LX9SenXX_fY/s1600/DSC00128.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" nba="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rAlLYl7-7Mw/Tm1mO_lUxuI/AAAAAAAABik/LX9SenXX_fY/s320/DSC00128.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Topstich along this short side. If you are using a laminated fabric then use a nonstick foot on your machine. (My machine came with one). Baste around the rest of this shorted piece & add velcro about an inch or so from the top. I did not and had to hand stich it on later so I don't have a picture. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Adding the piping: *this makes the project more intermediate if you want an easier version I will post another tutorial showing you how.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-p3mq9RcQUqQ/Tm1mQWtZwPI/AAAAAAAABio/NH3_3VJQ6eo/s1600/DSC00133.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" nba="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-p3mq9RcQUqQ/Tm1mQWtZwPI/AAAAAAAABio/NH3_3VJQ6eo/s320/DSC00133.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Start with the large piece of exterior fabric. I started in the bottom corner and pinned the piping (with the rough edge facing out) around the whole piece. At the corners I cut little notches so it would curve better. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-X8O7Agoqw-Q/Tm1mSHkA6JI/AAAAAAAABis/7s0pxUvzWsk/s1600/DSC00136.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nba="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-X8O7Agoqw-Q/Tm1mSHkA6JI/AAAAAAAABis/7s0pxUvzWsk/s320/DSC00136.JPG" width="272" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here you can see where I began and ended.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jQ4E__tUqRY/Tm1mTx3Xr_I/AAAAAAAABiw/v5n_HZMpkPg/s1600/DSC00138.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" nba="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jQ4E__tUqRY/Tm1mTx3Xr_I/AAAAAAAABiw/v5n_HZMpkPg/s320/DSC00138.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Baste this in place.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4t1_948l1fc/Tm1mVSHni-I/AAAAAAAABi0/Y9g3Rm5IjLw/s1600/DSC00139.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" nba="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4t1_948l1fc/Tm1mVSHni-I/AAAAAAAABi0/Y9g3Rm5IjLw/s320/DSC00139.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now take the shorter (pocket) piece and lay it on top of the piece you just sewed the piping on. Make sure the exterior fabrics are facing each other. Line up the bottom edges, you should have about 3" above the top of the pocket piece. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sY9OQuJpJ_E/Tm1mYA14M2I/AAAAAAAABi4/GYoBeTP0iTA/s1600/DSC00140.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nba="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sY9OQuJpJ_E/Tm1mYA14M2I/AAAAAAAABi4/GYoBeTP0iTA/s320/DSC00140.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Pin in place. Tip: If using a laminated fabric pin along your sewing line so that you don't leave holes in the fabric.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gUzqooGDR8A/Tm1mbfJAzII/AAAAAAAABi8/B57D2gkcJXs/s1600/DSC00141.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" nba="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gUzqooGDR8A/Tm1mbfJAzII/AAAAAAAABi8/B57D2gkcJXs/s320/DSC00141.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Sew in place leaving a 3-4" opening toward the top of one side. It's important that you feel for the piping making sure to get your seam pretty close to it. You can peak inside as your going to see where you need to sew close. Take your large piece of batting and baste it on to one side of your project. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r2pP53nP5uY/Tm1mc1dYAdI/AAAAAAAABjA/poKx8VP2M-g/s1600/DSC00145.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" nba="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r2pP53nP5uY/Tm1mc1dYAdI/AAAAAAAABjA/poKx8VP2M-g/s320/DSC00145.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now carefully turn it rightside out. I started at the top, then fold it down. Make sure to keep the pocket to one side as you turn. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LsQr06Rv8mQ/Tm1mfo2jRbI/AAAAAAAABjE/TlHxuI-JrdM/s1600/DSC00148.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" nba="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LsQr06Rv8mQ/Tm1mfo2jRbI/AAAAAAAABjE/TlHxuI-JrdM/s320/DSC00148.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now pin your opening closed and topstich around the whole thing. I used my nonstick foot and largest stitch my machine does (5mm). </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Add velcro to your flap, making sure it lines up with the piece you sewed on earlier.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I7ctL25RwzQ/Tm-cE5_d2wI/AAAAAAAABjM/pzyvllX0ZBs/s1600/DSC00576.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" rba="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I7ctL25RwzQ/Tm-cE5_d2wI/AAAAAAAABjM/pzyvllX0ZBs/s320/DSC00576.JPG" width="319" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now your project is complete! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BoGxNOC3sAo/Tm-cGr12KuI/AAAAAAAABjQ/Szumgdl07KY/s1600/DSC00580.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" rba="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BoGxNOC3sAo/Tm-cGr12KuI/AAAAAAAABjQ/Szumgdl07KY/s320/DSC00580.JPG" width="319" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I was not one of those moms that cried about her kid going to school, maybe because it's 2 days a week for 2 1/2 hours so he isn't gone much. I might cry when he goes to kindergarten. Anyway, he didn't need much to transport the one or two papers he'd be bringing home each time or the occasional show & tell items. I came across the perfect toddler backpack tutorial (that's free!) at <a href="http://thatcraftymrsv.blogspot.com/2010/05/guess-what-ive-got-for-you.html">That Crafty Mrs. V</a>. I let Kellen choose the main fabric and I chose the compliment fabrics. Here's how it turned out:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-czXbMCSQyK4/Tm1XD_ulkCI/AAAAAAAABh0/xWkJ1LkVypc/s1600/DSC00536.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" nba="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-czXbMCSQyK4/Tm1XD_ulkCI/AAAAAAAABh0/xWkJ1LkVypc/s400/DSC00536.JPG" width="398" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I finally figured out the embroidery function on my sewing machine (that I got in January for my birthday!) and put his name on the front. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Hnvp9uZHFwY/Tm1XB5UrbTI/AAAAAAAABhw/HIYaikEgRSM/s1600/DSC00512.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nba="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Hnvp9uZHFwY/Tm1XB5UrbTI/AAAAAAAABhw/HIYaikEgRSM/s320/DSC00512.JPG" width="319" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Love the inside! I really wanted to use this where I put the blue but didn't think his name would stand out as much. I added the orange polka dot here and there for visual interest. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--3j7xw5H8qQ/Tm1XH4CekEI/AAAAAAAABh8/Hqv9Eq-UyYU/s1600/DSC00541.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nba="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--3j7xw5H8qQ/Tm1XH4CekEI/AAAAAAAABh8/Hqv9Eq-UyYU/s320/DSC00541.JPG" width="319" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ubMoxtXyIYg/Tm1XMKYC05I/AAAAAAAABiE/yyvcAexEiIc/s1600/DSC00548.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nba="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ubMoxtXyIYg/Tm1XMKYC05I/AAAAAAAABiE/yyvcAexEiIc/s320/DSC00548.JPG" width="319" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JQ0WcOMG3vQ/Tm1XFoCskkI/AAAAAAAABh4/WImW7Y0HMmI/s1600/DSC00540.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nba="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JQ0WcOMG3vQ/Tm1XFoCskkI/AAAAAAAABh4/WImW7Y0HMmI/s320/DSC00540.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L8uKyUSjhtU/Tm1XKo_PnfI/AAAAAAAABiA/kTWCWNQw1f4/s1600/DSC00542.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nba="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L8uKyUSjhtU/Tm1XKo_PnfI/AAAAAAAABiA/kTWCWNQw1f4/s320/DSC00542.JPG" width="319" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I think the orange piping adds so much detail! Overall I am very happy how this turned out! I really wanted to add a side pocket with elastic so he could put a sippy cup or bottle of water but I got caught up in the excitement when making it and forgot! I don't think it'd be hard, though.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Ok, so I started compiling a bunch of links to other toddler backpacks for you them I came across <a href="http://tipnut.com/backpacks-knapsacks/">this link</a> which has done all the work and had most of the ones I found anyway. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1vO_43dyl6c/Tmn9cL1RgQI/AAAAAAAABhI/V0n8oN_MqZU/s1600/img32m.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" nba="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1vO_43dyl6c/Tmn9cL1RgQI/AAAAAAAABhI/V0n8oN_MqZU/s320/img32m.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0HoN5DoLe60/Tmn9c5W3aaI/AAAAAAAABhM/Y-W--RR2HRE/s1600/img40m.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" nba="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0HoN5DoLe60/Tmn9c5W3aaI/AAAAAAAABhM/Y-W--RR2HRE/s320/img40m.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">(Images from <a href="http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/puffy-owl-costume-baby/?pkey=challoween-costumes">Pottery Barn website</a>)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It instantly got my creative juices flowing! A few trial runs and tweaks later and I finally have it! And since it's the cutest thing ever I am making it available in my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/BisforBoy?ref=si_shop">Etsy shop</a>.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qMnkBgBG9Ng/Tmn-eFMJUuI/AAAAAAAABhQ/iNaJw4PrwQo/s1600/DSC00482-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nba="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qMnkBgBG9Ng/Tmn-eFMJUuI/AAAAAAAABhQ/iNaJw4PrwQo/s320/DSC00482-1.JPG" width="319" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">As you can see it is now 2 seperate pieces, a cape and hat. First, of all this is much more boy friendly. Second, it is practical because the hat can be worn throughout the fall and winter.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tEavYGQlaGo/Tmn-gYwWTSI/AAAAAAAABhU/Q_2F6Fm8aI4/s1600/DSC00484-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nba="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tEavYGQlaGo/Tmn-gYwWTSI/AAAAAAAABhU/Q_2F6Fm8aI4/s320/DSC00484-1.JPG" width="319" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The hat has an adorable shabby chic style appliqued face. It is lined too. In the picture above I used orange polka dot fabric which matches the lining in the cape. Below, it's hard to tell, but I lined the hat with another layer of the brown fleece making it extra warm.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BRQgyDdrB3o/Tmn_BUQRImI/AAAAAAAABhs/hioUAWFIuzk/s1600/DSC00042.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nba="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BRQgyDdrB3o/Tmn_BUQRImI/AAAAAAAABhs/hioUAWFIuzk/s320/DSC00042.JPG" width="319" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Isn't this chubby face adorable! He's eating fruit snacks... so this is the best shot of the hat I could get on him... he's at the age where he wants to pull off the hat as soon as I put it on.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uJ1lxKZyFEQ/Tmn-icICkZI/AAAAAAAABhY/AzTEeg3NiT0/s1600/DSC00476.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nba="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uJ1lxKZyFEQ/Tmn-icICkZI/AAAAAAAABhY/AzTEeg3NiT0/s320/DSC00476.JPG" width="319" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here's the duo closer up.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i_FGiduOYWg/Tmn-jxlcIRI/AAAAAAAABhc/NSCA_SEjMfU/s1600/DSC00459-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nba="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i_FGiduOYWg/Tmn-jxlcIRI/AAAAAAAABhc/NSCA_SEjMfU/s320/DSC00459-1.JPG" width="318" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Sorry for the poor quality of this picture... he sat still for approximately 30 seconds thanks to the stick and corn keeping him happy. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gyXUVeN2Ui0/Tmn-lDeZQ4I/AAAAAAAABhg/bsBVvXWYeNo/s1600/DSC00107.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nba="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gyXUVeN2Ui0/Tmn-lDeZQ4I/AAAAAAAABhg/bsBVvXWYeNo/s320/DSC00107.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I can also do the hooded cape... this one is a bit small for him... but he's my only baby model. The cape would fit like it does in the previous picture covering more of the shoulders. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qEqJ-i76gIQ/Tmn-uHf62vI/AAAAAAAABhk/AUuPpWzh0os/s1600/DSC00052.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nba="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qEqJ-i76gIQ/Tmn-uHf62vI/AAAAAAAABhk/AUuPpWzh0os/s320/DSC00052.JPG" width="319" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Lining can be your choice. I have many fabrics to choose from. Here is a white with orange, brown, tan, & blue polka dots.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4fgxu0PkOpU/Tmn-4y6ajHI/AAAAAAAABho/db4oU8lJx8I/s1600/DSC00009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nba="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4fgxu0PkOpU/Tmn-4y6ajHI/AAAAAAAABho/db4oU8lJx8I/s320/DSC00009.JPG" width="319" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Once Halloween is over you can continue using the warm fall/winter hat!</div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I thought I'd repost my favorite cooler weather recipe. I don't know about you, but we've had the best weather ever! This is such a powerful description of what being a mother is really all about. I hope this brings a tear to your eye but also gives you some encouragement as you read it. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Here's the link to the column: <a href="http://www.morningsun.net/living/x934432237/The-Invisible-Mother">The Invisible Mother</a> </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
I am grateful to Mother-in-Law for passing it along. I can give no credit to the author, because I don't know who wrote it, but from the sound of things she seeks none.<br />
<br />
Religious or not, an at-home-mom or professional mom, read it and take from it what you need.<br />
<br />
<strong>Invisible Mother</strong><br />
<br />
It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and ask to be taken to the store. Inside I'm thinking, “Can't you see I'm on the phone?' Obviously not; no one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all. I'm invisible. The Invisible Mom. <br />
<br />
Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more: Can you fix this? Can you tie this?<br />
Can you open this??<br />
<br />
Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a clock to ask, 'What time is it?' I'm a satellite guide to answer, “What number is the Disney Channel?' I'm a car to order, “Right around 5:30, please.”<br />
<br />
I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history and the mind that graduated summa cum laude - but now they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again. She's going, she's going, she's gone!?<br />
<br />
One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England. Janice had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. <br />
<br />
I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well. It was hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself. I was feeling pretty pathetic, when Janice turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, “I brought you this.' It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe. I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her inscription:<br />
<br />
To Charlotte, with admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees.<br />
<br />
In the days ahead I would read - no, devour - the book. And I would discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after which I could pattern my work: No one can say who built the great cathedrals - we have no record of their names. <br />
<br />
These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished. They made great sacrifices and expected no credit. The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything. <br />
<br />
A legendary story in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, “Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof, no one will ever see it.” And the workman replied, “Because God sees.” <br />
<br />
I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place. It was almost as if I heard God whispering to me, “I see you, Charlotte. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does. No act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake you've baked, is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will become.”<br />
<br />
At times, my invisibility feels like an affliction. But it is not a disease that is erasing my life. It is the cure for the disease of my own self-centeredness. It is the antidote to my strong, stubborn pride.<br />
<br />
I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder. As one of the people who show up at a job that they will never see finished, to work on something that their name will never be on. The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to sacrifice to that degree.<br />
<br />
When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell the friend he's bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, '”My Mom gets up at 4 in the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand bastes a turkey for three hours and presses all the linens for the table.” That would mean I'd built a shrine or a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, to add, “You're gonna love it there.”<br />
<br />
As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we're doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible women.<br />

Some of you may be wondering if I fell off the face of the Earth! No, I've just taken an unofficial 'summer break' from blogging. This wasn't planned...it came about when my computer started acting up. My computer needed a new hard drive, screen, and keyboard... most of us would think 'just get a new computer' but it must be the farmer in my husband who wants to fix things to death. So here I sit with a computer that has a new hard drive and still needs everything else! He glued the missing keys back on...by the way it's easier just leaving them off because now I have to hit them just right to work. I have a large black spot in the bottom left corner which I've been able to work around. The cherry on top of my computer problems is that our internet doesn't like to keep a connection...depending on the day. We finally have an appointment and the guy should be 'fixing' it today! <br />
With all the fun things to do during the summer I have had a hard time wanting to try and fumble through posting to my blog. I figure I'd just give myself a summer break and get back into the swing of things late Augustish. <br />
PS- I have really enjoyed keeping a clean craft room which doesn't happen when I'm doing projects 2-3 times a week! I do have pictures from my little guys first birthday to post...when I get a chance! <br />
PPS- Soon I may be without a camera too! It needs to be sent off to get fixed which may take up to 6 weeks! It seems like everything in my life right now is breaking down! The computer/internet, my camera, and dishwasher...it's really frustrating!<br />
<br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">My third project was supposed to be molded crayons. Well, I ordered some super cute candy molds to use but they still haven't arrived so in it's place I decided to make myself some dish mats. Our dishwasher is as old as our house (which isn't that old in house years but really old in dishwasher years). We are trying to make it work a little longer before we dish out the money for a new one! So, in the mean time the counter above the dishwasher looks like this:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Hmsf6TKeJkE/Te59HYbSGBI/AAAAAAAABew/NKc0D9nq7hE/s1600/dish+mat.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180px" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Hmsf6TKeJkE/Te59HYbSGBI/AAAAAAAABew/NKc0D9nq7hE/s320/dish+mat.JPG" t8="true" width="320px" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Where I put all the dishes I rewashed, or washed instead of waiting all day for the dishwasher to decide to finish washing one load. Oh, and there's always those pots & pans that need to be hand washed. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I originally was going to follow <a href="http://ashbyfamilyblog.blogspot.com/2010/04/kitchen-towel-mat-tutorial.html#axzz1OcMaRYwt">this</a> cute tutorial over at Toad's Treasures but I was too <strike>lazy</strike> busy and wanted something quicker... you never know how long nap time is going to be with 2 kids!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So, this is what I ended up doing.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Gather up the following supplies</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2uX4H51_Ji4/Te5_a2GjAkI/AAAAAAAABe0/nmGbejH1F9Q/s1600/DSC08964-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214px" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2uX4H51_Ji4/Te5_a2GjAkI/AAAAAAAABe0/nmGbejH1F9Q/s320/DSC08964-1.JPG" t8="true" width="320px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">First, spray the back of the terri cloth hand towel. Wait about 5 minutes (refer to directions on spray can).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aZ5w1Owb9h4/Te6BoCtsNhI/AAAAAAAABe4/lRjU0NCIib8/s1600/dish+mat1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="244px" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aZ5w1Owb9h4/Te6BoCtsNhI/AAAAAAAABe4/lRjU0NCIib8/s320/dish+mat1.jpg" t8="true" width="320px" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> Lay flannel fabric face down on work surface and carefully lay the terri cloth hand towel with sticky side down ontop of flannel. I started at one end, smoothing out wrinkles as you go.<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xN0MsWi-EEo/Te6Bo-N-s-I/AAAAAAAABe8/imtSNBzIMqY/s1600/dish+mat2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228px" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xN0MsWi-EEo/Te6Bo-N-s-I/AAAAAAAABe8/imtSNBzIMqY/s320/dish+mat2.JPG" t8="true" width="320px" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Cut the edges off the short side...makes the next step easier.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1P4JW9Kv35s/Te6C8EGQyDI/AAAAAAAABfA/-4mkJW1dpYM/s1600/dish+mat3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256px" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1P4JW9Kv35s/Te6C8EGQyDI/AAAAAAAABfA/-4mkJW1dpYM/s320/dish+mat3.jpg" t8="true" width="320px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Not pictured, I surged around the edges. If you do not have a serger I would recommend using bias tape as an easy way to finish the edges. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here are my fnished products...which took me no longer than a half hour for 3!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
